City of Manassas Park Announces Cooling Centers During Extreme Heat
Manassas Park, VA – In response to the extreme heat across the region from July 1-5, the City of Manassas Park is reminding residents that cooling centers are available throughout the city for anyone needing temporary relief from the dangerous heat.
High temperatures and elevated heat indexes can quickly lead to heat-related illnesses, particularly for older adults, young children, individuals with chronic medical conditions, and those without access to air conditioning. We are encouraging the community to limit outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day, if possible, stay hydrated, wear lightweight clothing, and check on family members and neighbors who may be vulnerable.

Residents experiencing signs of heat exhaustion, including heavy sweating, dizziness, weakness, nausea, headache, or fainting, should move to a cool location, drink water, and seek medical attention if symptoms worsen. Anyone experiencing symptoms of heat stroke, including confusion, loss of consciousness, or a body temperature above 103 degrees, should call 9-1-1 immediately.
“Periods of extreme heat can pose serious health risks, and we want everyone in our community to know that help is available,” says Assistant City Manager Dustin Sternbeck. “While these events remind us our shared responsibility to look after one another, if you or someone you know needs relief from the weather, please take advantage of one of our cooling centers.”
The City will continue to monitor weather conditions and provide updates through its website and official social media channels as needed. Stay safe and enjoy the holiday weekend!
